A large plume of Saharan dust lifted off West Africa on March 31, 2023, and started spreading west toward the Canary Islands and Cabo Verde.

As of April 3, the plume is still affecting the region, and a small part of it is expected to reach southern Spain late April 4 (UTC) and into April 5.
