Three people were killed, and 15 others injured after large waves struck the coast of Tenerife and other areas of the Canary Islands on Saturday, November 8, according to the regional emergency coordination center.

A woman was swept into the ocean near the Puerto de la Cruz resort in northern Tenerife. She was pulled from the water but later died, emergency services said. In a separate incident, a man died in Santa Cruz de Tenerife after being dragged into the sea.

The third fatality was a man found dead near a beach in Granadilla de Abona, on the island’s southern coast.

Emergency personnel responded to multiple incidents as high waves and strong surf damaged seafronts, flooded promenades, and struck coastal structures. At least 15 people sustained injuries, authorities said.

Local officials urged residents and visitors to stay away from breakwaters, piers, and coastal paths while the rough seas persist. Authorities also requested the public to avoid taking photographs or videos near the shoreline due to ongoing danger from sudden surges.

The Spanish meteorological agency (AEMET) maintained coastal warnings and a pre-alert for strong swell across the archipelago as Atlantic waves continued to affect the region. Other islands, including Gran Canaria and La Palma, also reported high waves and localized flooding along exposed coasts.
