Earthquake swarm in northern Alaska, northeast of Noatak

A swarm of moderate to strong earthquakes is being registered in northern Alaska, about 28 km northeast of the village of Noatak. First earthquake was registered on April 18, 2014 as M5.6 at depth of 23.4 km.
Since then, and by 13:22 UTC today, USGS registered a total of 74 earthquakes in the region with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 5.6 and depths from 0.9 to 52.0 km. See the complete list below…
The village of Noatak (population 514) is the nearest populated place.
Officials with the Alaska Earthquake Information Center said the earthquakes are unusual, because the region isn't a seismically active part of Alaska.
There are no active volcanoes close-by.
