The epicenter was located 86.8 km (54 miles) SW of Nikolski and 1 542 km (958 miles) SW of Anchorage, Alaska.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are resistant to earthquake shaking, though vulnerable structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are unreinforced brick masonry and reinforced masonry construction.
The quake was preceded by M4.2 at 20:07 UTC and followed by M4.4 at 00:29 UC and M3.8 at 01:24 UTC, all three of them at depths between 33 and 35 km (20 and 22 miles).
