At least one destructive tornado swept through the municipality of El Ejido, Spain's southern province of Almeria, on January 6, 2018, damaging 150 hectares (370 acres) of greenhouses.

There were several reported tornadoes in El Ejido today, but one that formed around 11:00 local time in Pampanico was responsible for extensive agricultural damage. Preliminary results show at least 150 hectares (370 acres) of greenhouses damaged or destroyed.

Another tornado formed in Almerimar, near Lake Victoria, and destroyed several huts and downed trees.

The storm that produced the tornadoes is responsible for placing more than half of the country of Yellow and Orange alerts for snow and ice, thunderstorms and large waves.

A woman was killed in San Juan de Nieva, Asturias after a wave dragged her into the sea. Her companion was also dragged in but he managed to swim out and notify emergency services. Resuscitation reportedly lasted one hour.
