Tropical storm Meari is expected to strengthen and become a category 1 typhoon

Tropical storm Meari (Falcon) is in the West Pacific basin, approximately 500 nautical miles south-southwest of Kadena Air Base, Japan. Meari is moving northwest at 12 knots with maximum sustained winds of 40 knots. The storm is expected to strengthen and become a category 1 typhoon during the next 2 days (June 25). Meari is currently in open waters, located near latitude 18.0N and Longitude 125.9E and, it is likely to track 130 to 160 miles east of Taipei, Taiwan over the weekend (June 24-25). (EQECAT)
