Strong M6.3 aftershock hits Kermadec Islands region, New Zealand

A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.3 hit the Kermadec Islands region, New Zealand at 09:56 UTC on April 1, 2021, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.
The epicenter was located about 960 km (597 miles) NE of Ngunguru, New Zealand, and 1 013 km (630 miles) SSW of Nuku'alofa, Tonga.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
This is an aftershock of the M8.1 earthquake that hit the region at 19:28 UTC on March 4.
Over the past 30 days, the USGS registered more than 490 earthquakes in this region, including M8.1 and M7.3.
