The epicenter was located 460 km (286 miles) SW of Bluff (population 1 938), 477 km (297 miles) SW of Invercargill (population 57 000), 532 km (331 miles) SW of Gore (population 13 050), 615 km (382 miles) SW of Queenstown (population 10 442), and 634 km (394 miles) SW of Dunedin (population 133 300), New Zealand.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
