At least 301 people have lost their lives, and 385 others have been injured in floods and related natural disasters across Afghanistan over the past 10 weeks, according to figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) on June 9.
Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad, spokesperson for the authority, said 18 812 families have been affected nationwide by floods, heavy rainfall, landslides, and other natural disasters since the beginning of the current solar year.
The disasters have caused extensive damage to housing infrastructure, with nearly 2 000 homes completely razed and an additional 7 187 sustaining partial damage. Almost 580 km (360 miles) of roads were damaged or washed away.
Agriculture also sustained substantial losses. Reports citing the authority said nearly 26 000 acres (10 522 ha) of agricultural land and 4 030 acres (1 631 ha) of orchards were destroyed, causing extensive damage to the agricultural sector.
Authorities said the process of assessing damage and assisting affected families remains ongoing.
