One dead after avalanche near Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia

A snowmobiler died after being buried by an avalanche near Tumbler Ridge in northern British Columbia on December 30.
The incident occurred in the Bullmoose riding area, about 35 km (22 miles) southwest of Tumbler Ridge in the Rocky Mountains.
The victim was part of a group of three riders who were in the area when the avalanche was remotely triggered from the base of the slope.

“The avalanche is believed to have run on a rain crust from mid-December, burying the subject approximately 75 cm (30 inches) below the surface. The subject was fully buried and did not survive, despite prompt companion rescue,”said Avalanche Canada.
The avalanche was approximately 300 m (984 feet) wide and around 240 m (787 feet) long, with a minimum crown depth of roughly 75 cm (30 inches) and a maximum depth of 200 cm (79 inches).
The other two members of the party were safe and uninjured.
