Very bright fireball observed over Dargaville, New Zealand

A very bright fireball was seen streaking over the skies of Dargaville, New Zealand, at 15:12 UTC on October 1, 2025.

The fireball was captured by Aotearoa remote sensing system (RMS) at around 04:12 LT on October 2, over Dargaville in New Zealand’s Northland region.

Based on the trajectory seen in the video shared by Aotearoa RMS, the fireball entered from an east-southeast direction and moved west-northwestward. While initially white, the fireball glowed in a bright blue-green hue before it disappeared into the horizon.

The coloration is likely due to the presence of nickel and magnesium, which emit blue-green light when burning in the atmosphere.

Copper can also produce similar hues, though it is less common in meteor composition compared to nickel and magnesium.
