A major explosion took place at Stromboli volcano, Italy at 19:16 UTC on July 26, 2024.

According to INGV Etna Observatory, the analysis of seismograms shows a presence of seismic transient starting at 19:15 UTC and lasting about 3 minutes, correlating with the major explosion.

The average amplitude of the volcanic tremor showed a sudden increase starting at 19:00 UTC, which brought the values from medium to very high. The amplitude returned to average values around 19:30 UTC.

The signals from the ground deformation monitoring networks (GNSS-HF and clinometric) do not show significant variations.

Activity at the volcano increased significantly on June 23, prompting authorities to raise the Alert Level to Orange. This activity included lava overflows, frequent explosions, and heightened volcanic tremors.

This activity further increased at around 17:30 UTC on July 3 and by July 4, webcams recorded new lava and pyroclastic flows. At 18:00 UTC on July 4, the Department of Civil Protection raised the Alert Level for the volcano from Orange to Red and transitioned to the pre-alarm operational phase.

Other activity since then included several large pyroclastic flows and a notable paroxysmal eruption at 12:07 UTC on July 11, producing an eruptive column and pyroclastic flow along the Sciara del Fuoco.
