At least 4 people have been killed over the past 4 days in Indonesian provinces of West Sumatra and West Java after heavy rain caused severe flooding and landslides.

First flood reports started coming in on November 2 from areas around Padang, West Sumatra where rivers broke their banks and floods inundated around 1 400 homes in the districts of Pauh, Lubuk Kilangan, Lubuk Begalung and Koto Tangah. At least 3 homes have been completely destroyed as well as 2 bridges.

BNPB spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said two people lost their lives in the province.

Flooding hit West Java provinces districts of Cipatujah and Karangnunggal on November 5 and 6.

The Pesanggrahan River has overflowed, roads have been blocked and bridges damaged, leaving some communities cut off.  Floodwaters there were reported as deep as 1.8 m (5.9 feet).

Another two people died in the province and around 50 families were affected.
