Tropical Storm “Ilsa” formed on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, near the coast of Western Australia as the 7th named storm of the 2022/23 Australian region cyclone season. Landfall is expected east of Port Hedland late Thursday or early Friday (LT), as a Category 4 cyclone on the Australian cyclone scale.
Northern Queensland is currently grappling with major flooding, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) warning of dangerously high levels in multiple rivers.
Tropical Cyclone “Gabrielle” has formed in the Coral Sea as the 3rd named storm of the 2023 Australian region cyclone season. The forecast track takes it near Norfolk Island as a severe category 3 before moving toward New Zealand. The cyclone could bring more rounds of heavy rain to parts of North Island, New Zealand, particularly the Auckland area where extremely heavy and record-breaking rainfall amounts were registered recently.
Heavy rainfall and flooding continue to impact Queensland’s Central Coast. A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy to locally intense rainfall between Ayr and St Lawrence, and adjacent inland areas, including Mackay, Proserpine and Bowen. Many catchments in northern and central Queensland are experiencing minor to major flooding, and dangerous flash flooding remains possible.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is warning residents of continued showers and thunderstorms across northern Australia and heatwave conditions in western and southern regions. Major flooding continues along parts of the Fitzroy River in Western Australia and minor to moderate flood warnings are in place in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

A new tropical cyclone is brewing over the Timor Sea, near the coast of Australia’s Northern Territory and Western Australia. As a result, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Tropical Cyclone Warning for the coast of Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
