This year, New York experienced its first white Christmas since 2009. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported a snow depth of 25.4 mm (1 inch) in Central Park at 07:00 LT on December 25, 2024, marking the city’s first white Christmas in 15 years.
According to the NWS, a white Christmas is defined as at least 25.4 mm (1 inch) of snow on the ground on Christmas morning.
The city last experienced a white Christmas in 2009 when 50.8 mm (2 inches) of snow covered the ground. The heaviest snow ever recorded in Central Park on Christmas was 177.8 mm (7 inches) between 14:00 LT and midnight on Christmas Day 1909.
