The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts temperatures to hit the upper 30s °C (90s °F) to mid-40s °C (110s °F) and up to nearly 50s °C (120s °F) in parts of California, Arizona, and Nevada, according to the latest advisory issued on July 11, 2024, forecasting multiple high-temperature records through July 13.
Many daily record high temperatures are forecast through much of the West through Saturday, July 13.
The temperatures are expected to hit the upper 30s °C (90s °F) with a possibility of hitting temperatures of mid-40s °C (110s °F) to nearly 50 °C (120s °F) in hot desert valley regions of California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Multiple daily high-temperature records are forecast for July 11 and 12 from the West Coast to the High Plains.
“This long-duration heatwave remains extremely dangerous if not taken seriously,” NWS Weather Prediction Center (WPC) forecasters said.
Widespread, intense heat will continue for much of the western U.S. through Saturday. Attention then turns east by early next week as confidence is increasing in extremely dangerous heat, particularly for urban areas in the Southeast and along the East Coast. pic.twitter.com/JX7URNbMKs

The NWS advised people to take proper precautions as the high temperatures might cause extreme cases of heat-related illnesses for many people.
The heat wave is expected to expand towards Central and Eastern United States between July 13 and 16 and is expected to persist longer in the southeastern U.S. and the East Coast.
The NWS predicts a cold front to bring relief to the plains and Midwest by July 15, and to the central plains by July 16.
Las Vegas had already hit triple digits on July 7, 2024, after mercury soared to 49 °C (120 °F) at the Harry Reid Airport, breaking the previous daytime temperature records for the region.
When the temperature hit 46.1 °C (115 °F) in Las Vegas on July 8, meteorologists baked cookies on top of a car’s dashboard to demonstrate how hot it was:

“Widespread, intense heat will continue for much of the western U.S. through Saturday,” WPC said. “Attention then turns east by early next week.”
Confidence is increasing in extremely dangerous, potentially deadly heat, particularly for urban areas in the Southeast and East Coast, beginning Monday, July 15.
“Many daily record highs are possible for the East Coast, and numerous warm overnight lows will provide little relief from the heat overnight,” WPC said. “Heat stress will build rapidly for those without adequate cooling or hydration.”
