Shallow M6.0 earthquake hits Mid-Indian Ridge

A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit Mid-Indian Ridge at 22:23 UTC on April 26, 2024. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.
The epicenter was located 100 km (62 miles) NNE of Martin-de-Vivies, Amsterdam Island, and 1 505 km (935 miles) NNE of Port-aux-Français, Kerguelen, French Southern Territories.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
It was followed by M5.0 aftershock at 23:23 UTC on April 26, M4.8 at 01:35 UTC on April 27, and M5.3 at 01:43 UTC on April 27.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
