A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.2 hit south of Africa at 17:10 UTC on September 26, 2020. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.2 at a depth of 2 km (1.2 miles).

The epicenter was located about 1 645 km (1 020 miles) SSE of Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).

There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
