Shallow M6.5 earthquake hits central Mid-Atlantic Ridge

A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.5 hit central Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 21:20 UTC on August 30, 2020. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). The EMSC registered it as M5.8 at a depth of 100 km (62 miles).
The epicenter was located 601 km (373 miles) NNE of Fernando de Noronha and 941 km (584 miles) NE of Sao Miguel, Brazil.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
The USGS issued a green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
