The epicenter was located 1 488 km (925 miles) SW of Lajes das Flores, Portugal.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.
The earthquake was preceded by M5.1 at 20:00 and M4.8 at 21:01 UTC, and followed by M5.2 at 21:29 and M4.8 at 21:50 UTC.
