Tropical Storm “Prapiroon” forms in the Philippine Sea, heading toward Japan and Korea
Tropical Storm "Prapiroon," known as Florita in the Philippines, formed June 29, 2018, in the Philippine Sea as the 7th named storm of the 2018 Pacific typhoon season. The storm is expected to keep strengthening over the next couple of days, as it moves toward Okinawa, Japan and the Korean Peninsula, bringing heavy rain.
At 03:00 UTC on June 29, Tropical Storm "Prapiroon" (Florita) had maximum winds of 65 km/h (40 mph), up from previous 45 km/h (28 mph), and gusts up to 80 km/h (50 mph), up from previous 60 km/h (37 mph), according to PAGASA.
Prapiroon's center was located 860 km (530 miles) east of Basco, Batanes at 02:00 UTC today and was still moving northwest at a speed of 11 km/h (7 mph).
While this system will not make landfall in the Philippines, PAGASA warned that it will enhance the "Habagat" (southwest monsoon), which will bring occasional rain to Extreme Northern Luzon this weekend.

Prapiroon (rain god in Thai) will continue strengthening as it moves over Okinawa, Japan before it hits Korea's southwest coast near Mokpo and pass northwest of Chinhae on Monday, July 2.
