According to the USGS, the epicenter was located 390.6 km (242.7 miles) NW of Hanga Roa, Chile (population 3 304).
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
The USGS issued a green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
The same region was hit by 4 more earthquakes between 00:17 and 06:49 UTC today with magnitudes ranging from M4.9 to M5.2.
