More than 69 000 DTE Energy customers have lost power after strong winds and thunderstorms swept through Metro Detroit, southeastern Michigan late Thursday, June 22, 2017.

The company said the outages are concentrated in Wayne, Monroe and Washtenaw counties, who took the brunt of the storm.

A downed power line fell on a house on Waldron St. near Gratiot in Roseville around 19:00 local time, sparking a fire.

WXYZ said that entire garage was torched and two large campers destroyed. Their reporter said a dog in that house was barking and alerted everybody inside to get out. There were no injuries reported.

Operations were dramatically slowed when power went out at Detroit Metropolitan Airport's North Terminal. Power was restored by 04:00 EDT, but long lines and wait times were still being reported early Friday morning. Anyone planning to fly out of Detroit Metro should call ahead to check flight statuses, Detroit Free Press reported.

At 07:00 EDT (11:00 UTC), DTE Energy said their crews restored power to 22 000 of the 69 000+ customers affected by the storm, and will continue 16-hr shifts until all are restored.

According to the NWS, there is a chance of thunderstorms across portions of southeast Michigan through the early afternoon hours of Friday, June 23, as a cold front tracks across the region. The strongest storms will be capable of producing wind gusts up to 64 km/h (40 mph).

In addition, heavy rainfall may lead to some localized flooding. Storms will track to the east at 48 km/h (30 mph).

There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday.
