The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended blizzard warnings and winter weather advisories across parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin through Thursday, November 27. The warnings cover Keweenaw, Marquette, Alger, Baraga, Gogebic, Ontonagon, and Houghton Counties, as well as Ashland and Iron Counties in northern Wisconsin.
In Marquette County, blizzard conditions continue through 10:00 EST this morning, followed by a winter weather advisory until 19:00 EST.
Up to 15 cm (6 inches) of additional snow is expected, with wind gusts reaching 80 km/h (50 mph). Lake-effect snow is forecast to persist through the evening, producing highly variable local conditions near Lake Superior’s shoreline.
Alger County, including Munising and Grand Marais, remains under a blizzard warning until 19:00 EST. Snowfall totals are expected to range between 10–33 cm (4–13 inches), with the heaviest accumulation west of Munising. Sustained winds up to 80 km/h (50 mph) will maintain whiteout conditions through the afternoon.
To the west, Baraga, Gogebic, Northern Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties remain under a blizzard warning until 07:00 EST, transitioning to a winter weather advisory later in the day. Additional accumulations of 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) are expected, accompanied by wind gusts up to 72 km/h (45 mph). The NWS warns of rapidly changing visibility and slippery road conditions, especially near open shorelines.
Keweenaw County, including Copper Harbor, remains under a blizzard warning through 07:00 EST, with up to 5 cm (2 inches) of new snow and wind gusts reaching 88 km/h (55 mph). The combination of blowing snow and high winds could cause tree damage and further travel disruptions.
In northern Wisconsin, Ashland and Iron Counties, including the Bad River Reservation and Madeline Island, remain under a blizzard warning until 06:00 CST. Additional snowfall of up to 8 cm (3 inches) and gusts near 56 km/h (35 mph) are expected to create hazardous conditions on regional highways.
NWS offices in Marquette and Duluth advise restricting travel to emergencies only, and urge drivers to carry winter survival kits. The agency warns that lake-effect snow bands may cause sharp variations over short distances, leading to sudden drops in visibility and changes in road surface conditions.
