A record 33.3 cm (13.1 inches) of snow was measured in Gaylord, Michigan, through Thanksgiving Day. The total broke the previous Thanksgiving snow record of 25.7 cm (10.1 inches) set in 2023.
Snowfall began early in the morning and persisted into the evening, with brief bursts of 2.5–5 cm (1–2 inches) per hour in the strongest bands.
By Friday morning, November 28, snow totals reached 33.3 cm (13.1 inches). Nearby locations in Otsego and Antrim counties reported 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) of snowfall through Thursday.
The snowfall was caused by the Thanksgiving winter storm that brought heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions across the northern U.S. this week.
The storm has claimed at least one life, following a fatal crash along the I-43 near Saukville, Wisconsin, on November 26.
It also caused road closures along the I-93 and I-29 in Minnesota and North Dakota after causing multi-vehicle crashes due to hazardous travel conditions through the early part of Thanksgiving week.
While the storm has passed, another winter storm will begin impacting the Midwest on Friday, November 28. Winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect across the northern U.S. as the storm threatens to drop over 38.1 cm (15 inches) of snow in some regions.
