Freeze Warning for parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Frost Advisories along the coasts
The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning for inland portions of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, effective from midnight until 10:00 EDT (09:00 CDT) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as temperatures are expected to fall near −2°C (28°F). Residents are advised to protect plants and outdoor pipes from freezing conditions.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for several inland counties of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, including Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Menominee, Gogebic, Ontonagon, and southern Houghton.
The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, is valid from 00:00 EDT (23:00 CDT) until 10:00 EDT (09:00 CDT) on Wednesday, October 8.
Forecast data show overnight lows dropping to around −2°C (28°F) across interior valleys and upland areas of central and western Upper Michigan, with the coldest readings expected away from the Great Lakes.
Coastal areas, including parts of the Keweenaw Peninsula and eastern Upper Michigan, are instead under Frost Advisories, where minimum temperatures are likely to remain a few degrees above freezing.
In Marquette County, the local forecast calls for lows between –1 and 2°C (30–36°F), with patchy frost.
The NWS upgraded earlier freeze watches to warnings after model guidance indicated stronger radiational cooling under clear skies and calm winds.
The NWS advised that sensitive outdoor vegetation should be covered or brought indoors, and exposed water systems, including garden hoses, sprinkler lines, and outdoor faucets, should be drained, wrapped, or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
The temperature drop has been attributed to a dry and cool air mass following a weak frontal passage earlier in the week.
With clear skies and light winds overnight, efficient surface cooling is expected. Temperatures are forecast to rebound to near-seasonal values later on Wednesday as a southwesterly flow redevelops.
