Severe storms injure two and cause widespread destruction across Mineral Wells, Texas

Severe thunderstorms struck Mineral Wells on April 28, 2026, injuring at least two people and causing widespread damage across the city. Emergency crews responded to damaged homes and debris-strewn areas, while local authorities declared a disaster and imposed a curfew.

Severe storms swept across north-central Texas during the afternoon and evening on April 28, with storm cells tracking southeast and producing damaging winds in and around Mineral Wells.

Widespread destruction was reported in residential areas, with roofs being torn off homes and severe damage to industrial buildings. Debris scattered across streets and properties blocked access in several areas.

At least two people were hospitalized, while others received treatment at the scene. Temporary assistance centers were established to support affected residents.

The National Weather Service (NWS) recorded the thunderstorm wind damage at 17:03 CDT (22:03 UTC), about 1 km (0.6 miles) northeast of Mineral Wells. A trained spotter reported snapped trees, confirming strong straight-line winds as the damage mechanism.

Local authorities declared a state of disaster following the storm and imposed a curfew beginning at 22:00 local time to restrict movement in damaged areas. Industrial facilities were also affected, with at least one manufacturing site halting operations due to structural damage and safety concerns.
