An ongoing winter storm is producing both ice storm and blizzard conditions across the Kuskokwim Delta and Valley regions of western Alaska.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Anchorage issued an Ice Storm Warning for Bethel, Aniak, and Crooked Creek, and Blizzard Warnings for the coastal Kuskokwim Delta, including Nunivak and Nelson Islands, until 09:00 AKST Wednesday.
Significant icing is reported, with ice accumulations reaching about 1.9 cm (0.75 inches).
In coastal communities, wind gusts of 70–90 km/h (45–55 mph) are producing near-zero visibility, with blizzard conditions expected to continue through Wednesday morning. Total snow accumulations range from 15–30 cm (6–12 inches).

According to the NWS, areas north and west of Bethel, are experiencing heavy snow and blizzard activity; while, freezing rain continues to create hazardous ice buildup south and east of Bethel.
“Travel across the affected region is strongly discouraged,” said the NWS.
Roads, runways, and other surfaces are expected to be slick and hazardous due to ice accretions. The significant ice accumulation may lead to power outages due to snapped lines and downed branches. Residents are urged to prepare for potential outages and avoid unnecessary travel.
The warning area includes the cities of Aniak, Crooked Creek, Sleetmute, Kasigluk, Akiachak, Kalskag, Toksook Bay, Mekoryuk, Kwethluk, Bethel, Quinhagak, and Kipnuk.
