The National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle has issued a Flood Watch for Mason County, including Shelton, in effect from Thursday afternoon, November 6 through Saturday morning, November 8.
Periods of rain are expected along the southern slopes of the Olympic Mountains beginning Tuesday night, November 3, and continuing through Friday, November 7, with elevated snow levels throughout the event. Heavier rainfall from Thursday onward could cause the Skokomish River to rise above flood stage by late Thursday.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Residents in flood-prone zones are advised to remain alert for possible Flood Warnings and to prepare for potentially high water levels.
The NWS also warned of higher astronomical tides on Wednesday and Thursday, November 5 and 6, which could worsen flooding and cause widespread beach erosion.
The watch was issued as multiple atmospheric rivers are forecast to bring heavy rainfall across the U.S. West Coast through the week, potentially triggering widespread flooding in parts of Washington State and northern California.
