Baby and father rescued after getting stranded by flash floods in Eloy, Arizona
Officials released a dramatic video showing rescuers saving a father and his baby trapped on the roof of their car after a flash flood swept it away in Eloy, Arizona, on October 14, 2025.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office conducted a swift water rescue for the father and his baby near the Battaglia Road and Highway 8 in Eloy. The man and child had been trapped on the roof of their car as floodwaters submerged their vehicles on Tuesday.
According to the Eloy Police Department, the man had driven past barricades and subsequently got swept away by a flash flood.
Members from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team, a K9 deputy, and the Eloy Police assisted the Casa Grande Fire Department in the rescue.
Arizona and the Southwest have been experiencing flooding for the past several days as rain and thunderstorms surged into the region. The rainfall and severe weather have been associated with the influence of tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond.
According to the National Weather Service office in Phoenix, powerful storms moved through the Phoenix area on Sunday, producing winds of more than 97 km/h (60 mph), hail, and heavy rainfall.
The Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport recorded 1.96 inches of rain Sunday, the fourth-highest one-day rainfall total for October.
The severe flooding prompted multiple water rescues in the affected areas over the Weekend. Another dramatic rescue was conducted by the Goodyear Fire Department along with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, October 12.
A rescue helicopter was used to save a driver after their vehicle was swept away by the floodwaters in Maricopa County on Sunday.
Visuals shared by the officials show a rescue crew member jumping down from the sheriff’s office helicopter to save the trapped person. The first responder and the driver were lifted to safety as the water continued to rush by. Fire officials said the driver was unharmed.
Flooding wasn’t the only severe weather event of the week for Arizona. A microburst triggered by the thunderstorms moving through the Phoenix area damaged over 500 homes in Tempe on Monday, October 13.
Meanwhile, deadly floods had also hit the city of Globe in central Arizona last month, claimed four lives, and created a hazmat risk as they swept away around 1 000 propane tanks.
