A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit south of the Fiji Islands at 10:27 UTC (23:27 LT) on February 7, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 59.2 km (36.8 miles). The EMSC is reporting M6.0 at a depth of 36 km (22.4 miles).

The epicenter was located 311 km (193 miles) NNE of ‘Ohonua, ‘Eua, Tonga (population 1 241), 324 km (201 miles) NNE of Nuku’alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga (population 22 400), and 854 km (531 miles) NW of Nasinu, Central, Fiji (population 92 043).
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses, indicating a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.
