Light pillars and Moon halo over Denmark

Light pillars and halos are formed when the freezing cold atmospheric air is filled with tiny ice particles in suspension.

When the wind is low and the sky is clear, you might observe strange beams coming from different sources of light. Ice particles reflect and refract light from its source and create columns, beams and halos.

"This is what happened last night over Denmark, and I had seen it just once last year, but I didn't think one could experience them here! As I went out to shoot aurora, I got to see another great sky phenomena instead," writes Adrien Mauduit.

The video shows a short time-lapse sequence of lights pillars coming from buildings and towns, and a Moon halo.
