A winter storm impacted Boston and surrounding areas from Saturday night into Sunday morning, February 8 – 9.

A total of 11 cm (4.3 inches) of snow was recorded at Logan Airport in Boston, bringing the city’s snowfall total to 54 cm (21.1 inches) for the 2024-25 winter season. Last winter, Boston recorded only 23 cm (9.2 inches) of snow. The seasonal average for this date is 73 cm (28.6 inches), leaving the city 19 cm (7.5 inches) below normal snowfall levels.

Several areas around Boston also received significant snowfall. Gloucester, Newburyport, and North Ashburnham each reported 18 cm (7 inches) of snow. Multiple other locations recorded over 15 cm (6 inches).

More snow is expected next week, with three storms forecasted to impact Boston and Massachusetts over the coming days.

The first storm is expected to pass over the region from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, February 11 – 12, bringing snow. While it will not directly impact Boston, it is expected to bring some snowfall to the area and light snow to the southernmost parts of New England.

Areas north of the Massachusetts Turnpike may see little to no snowfall, aside from a few stray flurries. South of the Pike, light snow is expected, mainly after midnight, continuing through mid-morning Wednesday. The highest snowfall amounts are expected south of Plymouth and Providence, particularly along the South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands.

The second storm is expected to begin early Thursday morning, lasting through Thursday afternoon, February 13.

This system is expected to bring a mix of winter weather, beginning with snow before transitioning to ice and rain. It will be a fast-moving storm, starting after midnight with an initial burst of snowfall before shifting to sleet, freezing rain, and rain through Thursday morning.

The third storm is forecasted to begin late Saturday, February 15, and continue through early Monday, February 17, bringing a wintry mix. Due to the forecast’s long-range nature, more precise details will be available in the coming days.
