The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for much of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, warning of significantly reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions ahead of the Super Bowl LIX championship game.
The game, one of the most-watched annual sporting events in the United States, will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, 2025, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The advisory remains in effect until 10:00 local time (LT) on Saturday, February 8, with dense fog expected to reduce visibility to 400 m (0.25 miles) in some areas.
Potential travel disruptions

The Louisiana State Police issued a travel advisory following a multi-vehicle collision at the 13.5-mile marker of southbound I-55. The crash involved multiple commercial vehicles, including an overturned 18-wheeler.
Although authorities have not confirmed whether fog was a factor, an image shared by police shows significant fog at the scene. Traffic was diverted to Old US 51 at mile marker 15 (Manchac), and drivers were advised to plan accordingly.
Advisory for travelers
The NWS has urged travelers to use headlights even after sunrise due to lingering fog and to avoid using high beams, which can reduce visibility in foggy conditions.
With Super Bowl weekend expected to bring increased traffic, authorities advise drivers to exercise caution, especially in fog-prone areas.
