Winter storm blankets New Orleans with up to a foot of snow, shutting down the city, Louisiana
A major winter storm swept through New Orleans on January 21, 2025, bringing officially recorded snowfall of 20 cm (8 inches), with some reports indicating accumulations of up to 30 cm (1 foot). The storm effectively shut down much of the city, disrupting transportation and daily activities.
The French Quarter, typically known for its lively atmosphere, was instead covered in a thick layer of snow, creating a rare and striking sight.
Drone footage published by Live Storms Media captured aerial views of Bourbon Street, Canal Street, and other parts of downtown New Orleans, showing an uncharacteristically white landscape.
Despite the disruption, locals and visitors took to the streets to enjoy the rare snowfall, making snowmen, taking photos, and walking through the snow-covered historic landmarks.
This event marked one of the most significant snowfall occurrences in recent history for the region.
