Heavy floods hit São Paulo, Brazil

Heavy rains affecting São Paulo for the past 5 days caused heavy floods in its southern and eastern parts on March 30, 2018. The municipal districts of Cidade Ademar and Ipiranga in the southern zone announced a state of alert at around 19:00 UTC (16:00 local time) today after the Zavurus and Ipiranga streams overflowed.
The storm left the streets flooded, people stranded and cars submerged in different areas of the city. Fire Department recorded 25 downed trees during the storm. Hail was reported in isolated areas of the southern zone, according to the Emergency Management Center (CGE). Wind gusts more than 40 km/h (24 mp/h) was registered near the Airport of Congonhas, but the operations were not affected at the time.
According to city firefighters, a 21-year-old boy was injured after the metal structure of the Assaí market, on Santa Catarina Avenue, in Jabaquara (South Zone), collapsed. Another man suffered a fracture in his leg after being buried by a small landslide in Itapecerica da Serra (Greater São Paulo).
Forty people were stranded in the market and rescued by firefighters.
