Two bright fireballs over southern England, UK

Two bright fireballs were observed streaking through the night sky over southern England, United Kingdom over the past 24 hours. The first at 23:59 UTC on Friday, November 24 and the second at 07:12 UTC on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Sound was associated with both events.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) received 81 reports by 17:25 UTC about the first fireball (00:06 UTC). The event lasted between 3 and 7 seconds and was witnessed from England and Wales, UK and Normandie, France. 7 people heard delayed sound and 3 concurrent. 20 witnesses reported fragmentation.

86 reports were submitted for the second fireball, observed at 07:12 UTC on November 25. This event was seen over England and Wales, UK and Bretagne, Normandie and Pays de la Loire, France.

3 witnesses heard delayed and 1 concurrent sound associated with the event. 44 people witnessed fragmentation.

  1. I witnessed one of these while driving from Portsmouth UK heading west. I found this post about it after I just witnessed another large one just 10mins ago. NNE direction from Ringwood in Hampshire UK. There does seem to be a higher activity of Meteorites at the moment and they are big enough to actually fragment in to multiple parts on entry.

  2. I saw one last night to it was the biggest iv ever seen and bright green. I could not film it because I was driving. I live in Texas united States and it was spotted over Giddings Texas around 11:45 pm last night.
