Long-duration lake-effect snow event to impact Lake Erie region starting Thursday night
A multi-day lake-effect snow is set to disrupt travel and daily life across parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania starting on Thursday, November 28, 2024, with snow rates of up to 50 mm (2 inches) per hour expected, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A multi-day lake-effect snow event is expected to begin at Lake Erie on Thursday night local time (LT), according to the NWS. The event is forecast to continue into next week, with snow rates of 25 – 50 mm (1 – 2 inches) per hour expected within snow bands. Blowing and drifting snow may cause travel disruptions.
NWS has issued a winter storm watch from 00:00 local time (LT) on Friday, November 29, to 10:00 LT on Saturday, November 30, for Erie and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania, as well as Ashtabula and Lake counties in Ohio.
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Cuyahoga County during the same period, primarily for the far northeast portion of the county. Additional snowfall is possible across the region from Sunday through Tuesday, December 3.
Snowfall will initially be concentrated along the I-90 Corridor in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania from Thursday night through early Friday.
Snow bands are forecast to lift over Lake Erie temporarily on Saturday, November 30. Snow is expected to shift inland, affecting the Snowbelt and Cleveland metro area from Sunday into early next week.
Conditions after Saturday remain uncertain, as it is too early to provide a detailed forecast.
