A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit Kepualuan Talaud, Indonesia at 02:26 UTC on January 22, 2022. The agency is reporting a depth of 24 km (14.9 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.0 at a depth of 49 km (30 miles).
The epicenter was located about 233 km (148 miles) SE of Sarangani, Philippines, and 264 km (164 miles) NW of Tobelo, Indonesia.

5 000 people are estimated to have felt strong shaking and 90 000 moderate.
