Landslide triggered by heavy downpour kills 6 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
A landslide caused by heavy downpour claimed the lives of six construction workers in the capital city Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
According to the Emergency Ministry, the incident took place on a section of the Tashkent metro's Yunusobod line, which was under construction.
The rain caused a collapse of about 250 cubic m (8 829 cubic feet) of soil in the construction site.
Rescue operations ended by Thursday morning, December 19, when all six bodies were retrieved.
Under the instruction of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission had been set up to deal with the consequences of the tragedy, as well as investigating the causes and effects of the accident, and providing prompt assistance to the victims and their families.
