A brilliant fireball streaked across Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, leaving witnesses in awe as the meteor turned the night sky into a day. Authorities and experts said they will provide more information after the analysis.
Footage of the event shows the fireball falling, illuminating the night sky with a green glow for a few seconds.
The meteor was seen in the Chui and Bishkek region in Kyrgyzstan, as well as in parts of Uzbekistan. According to eyewitnesses near Bishkek, the meteor was so intense that the night sky lit up as if it were day.
Gulzhán Saadáyeva, head of the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, said it is unlikely that the object fell in the country since the phenomenon was also observed in Tashkent, capital of neighboring Uzbekistan.
However, she added that authorities and experts are working on investigations and will provide more detailed information once the study is concluded.
"It is unlikely that this has been registered in Bishkek. We saw it in Tashkent too," she told local media.
"Maybe this is, in general, thousands of kilometers from us, because the distance in the sky is relative. It is unlikely that this was registered at our station. In any case, we will study the records and give a detailed answer later."
