A large rockfall caused by recent rainfall hit Hissn Basim village in Du’an district, Hadhramaut governorate of eastern Yemen on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2024, causing panic among residents.

One large rock rolled down the mountain close to houses but none of them were damaged and no one was injured.

However, residents reported significant damage to farms and trees in the area.

Faiz Ba-sura, director of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority in Hadhramaut, said the rockfall was caused by rain saturating the soil on the mountain.

Ba-sura warned residents that the cracks in the area threaten further collapses, and urged residents not to return to their threatened homes.
