A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.4 hit off the coast Visokoi Island, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands at 20:02 UTC on November 15, 2018. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.

There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).

Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.

This is the second M6+ earthquake since 21:21 UTC, November 14 when M6.0 was registered near the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.
