The interspecies internet? An idea in progress…

the-interspecies-internet-an-idea-in-progress

Apes, dolphins and elephants are animals with remarkable communication skills. Could the internet be expanded to include sentient species like them? It is a new and developing idea from a panel of four great thinkers — dolphin researcher Diana Reiss, musician Peter Gabriel, internet of things visionary Neil Gershenfeld and Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the internet.

Peter Gabriel writes incredible songs but, as the co-founder of WITNESS and TheElders.org, is also a powerful human rights advocate. Full bio »

As Director of MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, Neil Gershenfeld explores the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds. Full bio »

Diana Reiss studies animal cognition, and has found that bottlenose dolphins (and Asian elephants) can recognize themselves in the mirror. Full bio »

Vint Cerf, now the chief Internet evangelist at Google, helped lay the foundations for the internet as we know it more than 30 years ago. Full bio »

  1. Seeing that Peter Gabriel was involved got me
interested at first. However, as I watched this
presentation, an uneasy feeling grew . So what
that these animals can display certain human recognitive actions or even feelings if they will become
prisioners enslaved for the Grand Parade of somebody's ego in the name of science. Why not
launch a Great Show of how once and for all we
humans can communicate lovingly to each other
world wide first and then we will no longer exploit other species In the Cage.
A deep sense of dread to see Peter Gabriel in this feature. Anybody can see that animals are
    highly inteligent .
