• China issues red alert as Typhoon “Muifa” nears Shanghai

    China’s national observatory issued a red alert, the most severe warning level, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, as Typhoon Muifa is expected to make landfall twice later in the day-the first in coastal areas between Sanmen County and Zhoushan City in Zhejiang Province around nightfall, and the second in coastal areas between Jiaxing City in Zhejiang Province and Shanghai’s Pudong District on Wednesday evening, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 130 km/h (80 mph).

    Typhoon “Muifa” has continued moving NW over the East China Sea, toward the coast of eastern China over the past 24 hours. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China on September 14, 2022, and pass over or very close to Shanghai – the most populated city in the world.

  • Tropical Storm “Ma-on” to make landfall over Luzon, Philippines

    Tropical Storm “Ma-on” – known as Florita in the Philippines – formed on August 21, 2022, east of the Philippines as the 9th named storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season. The storm is moving west at 15 km/h (9 mph) on August 22 and is expected to make landfall over northern Luzon around 18:00 UTC today.

  • Tropical Storm “Meari” makes landfall in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

    Tropical Storm “Meari” made landfall in Shizuoka Prefecture, close to capital Tokyo at 08:30 UTC (17:30 LT) on August 13, 2022, with maximum sustained winds of 72 km/h (45 mph). The storm caused disruption to the roads and train and air services during the peak summer holiday season, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
