Nanmadol formed on September 13, 2022, as the 14th named storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season, strengthened to a typhoon on September 15, and reached super typhoon status on September 16. The system is still strengthening and is expected to reach Kyushu, Japan by September 18.
Typhoon “Muifa” made its first landfall in China on the coast of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province at approximately 12:30 UTC on September 14, 2022, with maximum sustained winds of up to 151 km/h (94 mph), and the second in Shanghai’s Fengxian District at 16:30 UTC, with maximum sustained winds of up to 126 km/h (78 mph).
China’s national observatory issued a red alert, the most severe warning level, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, as Typhoon Muifa is expected to make landfall twice later in the day-the first in coastal areas between Sanmen County and Zhoushan City in Zhejiang Province around nightfall, and the second in coastal areas between Jiaxing City in Zhejiang Province and Shanghai’s Pudong District on Wednesday evening, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 130 km/h (80 mph).
Typhoon “Muifa” has continued moving NW over the East China Sea, toward the coast of eastern China over the past 24 hours. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China on September 14, 2022, and pass over or very close to Shanghai – the most populated city in the world.
Typhoon “Hinnamnor” made landfall near the city of Busan, South Korea at 19:50 UTC on September 5 (04:50 LT, September 6), with maximum sustained winds of up to 150 km/h (95 mph), and exited into the Sea of Japan at around 22:10 UTC. At least 2 people have been killed in South Korea and 10 have gone missing.
Typhoon “Hinnamnor” – the first super typhoon of the season and the strongest tropical cyclone of the year – merged with Tropical Depression “Gardo” on September 1, 2022, and continued moving toward Okinawa, Japan. The system is expected to turn toward South Korea and Western Japan on September 5.
Typhoon “Hinnamnor” formed on August 28, 2022, and reached super typhoon strength by 12:00 UTC on August 30, making it the strongest tropical cyclone of the year. The system is currently located well east of Okinawa, Japan, and is heading W at 28 km/h (17 mph).
Tropical Storm “Ma-on” – known as Florita in the Philippines – formed on August 21, 2022, east of the Philippines as the 9th named storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season. The storm is moving west at 15 km/h (9 mph) on August 22 and is expected to make landfall over northern Luzon around 18:00 UTC today.
Tropical Storm “Meari” made landfall in Shizuoka Prefecture, close to capital Tokyo at 08:30 UTC (17:30 LT) on August 13, 2022, with maximum sustained winds of 72 km/h (45 mph). The storm caused disruption to the roads and train and air services during the peak summer holiday season, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
Typhoon “Chaba” made landfall in the coastal area of Maoming City, China’s Guangdong Province at around 15:00 LT on July 2, 2022, with maximum sustained winds around 95 km/h (60 mph). Chaba is the third named storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season and the first to make landfall in China.
