A spring storm is developing over Eastern China and will track east over Korea and Japan through May 3 and 4, 2016, JMA warns. Heavy rainfall, high winds and thunderstorms are possible.

Meteorologist Rober Speta of the NHK and WestPacWx said the storm can bring winds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph), 150 mm (5.9 inches) of rainfall in Kyushu and strong thunderstorms, especially in western Japan. There is a threat of flooding and landslides.

"As this area of low pressure tracks out of China, it will rapidly deepen dropping its pressure from 1004 hPa to 975 hPa in 36 hours. This is impressive even for spring low standards," Speta said.

Highest winds are expected along the Korean Coast on the night of May 3 and much of the western Japan through the morning of May 4 (local time). The highest gusts will be up to 108 km/h (67.1 mph) along western coastal areas, according to JMA. This is enough to cause damage to light structures.

The coastal Pacific of Honshu could get Tropical storm strength winds along with high surf up to 3 – 4 meters (9.8 – 13 feet) high.
