Fatal Socata TBM-700 crash closes I-195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, during severe weather

A Socata TBM-700 aircraft crashed on Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, at around 08:15 LT (12:15 UTC) on October 13, 2025, killing both people aboard and injuring one motorist. The crash occurred amid stormy weather associated with a powerful nor’easter moving along the U.S. East Coast.

The plane came down in the middle of I-195, striking the median and catching fire within seconds, according to the Massachusetts State Police (MSP). Firefighters from Dartmouth and nearby towns managed to put out the flames, but the aircraft was almost completely destroyed.

Both people aboard the aircraft were killed on impact and pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

Additionally, a piece of debris hit a passing car, injuring the driver. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for much of the morning while crews examined the site and removed the wreckage. Both directions were reopened later in the day after debris removal and inspection by highway engineers and accident investigators.

According to preliminary information, the aircraft had departed from New Bedford Regional Airport and may have been attempting to return when it went down. CBS Boston, citing Flightradar24 data, reported that the plane was bound for Kenosha, Wisconsin. Officials said the pilot had not filed a flight plan.

At the time of the accident, the region was under the influence of a nor’easter, with sustained winds up to 65 km/h (40 mph) and periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash. No causal findings have been released, and investigators have not confirmed whether the weather played a direct role.
