Camper crushed under a bridge after getting swept away by flooding in New Pekin, Indiana

Flooding crushed an unoccupied camper in New Pekin, Indiana, as streams in the area rose rapidly following moderate rain through Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The video, taken in New Pekin and shared by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, shows the camper floating down a swollen river in area on Thursday, July 17.

The floodwater carried the camper underneath a bridge located on Shorts Corner Road, behind Casey’s Gas Station.

The current was so strong that the camper was crushed and forced under the bridge. The sheriff’s department confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Rainfall totals in the area measured between 36.8 and 39.9 mm (1.45 and 1.57 inches), through Thursday triggering the flash flood.

A Flash Flood Warning was issued for New Pekin on Thursday evening until 23:15 local time on Thursday., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
