Double fireball event and aurora observed over Fairbanks, Alaska

Two fireballs were observed streaking across the sky over Fairbanks, Alaska, in the early hours of December 1, 2024, accompanied by a green aurora. The two fireball events occurred just two hours apart, creating a rare spectacle for early-morning skywatchers.

Two fireballs were observed over Fairbanks, Alaska, on December 1, with both events recorded by cameras at the Aurora Moose Cottage in Fairbanks.

The first fireball appeared at approximately 09:56 UTC (00:56 local time), observed over Ester, Fairbanks, as it moved southward against a backdrop of the aurora borealis.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) has received two reports about this event.

The second fireball was observed a few hours later, at approximately 12:56 UTC (03:10 local time), in the same general area.
