Extreme rainstorm hits China’s Shandong, dropping 151 mm (5.9 inches) of rain in one hour

An extreme rainstorm struck northern China on Monday, August 26, 2024, bringing in over 100 mm (3.9 inches) of rain in a short time to 6 provinces and breaking multiple daily records.
Shangdong recorded 151 mm (5.94 inches) of rain in an hour after a rainstorm struck the province at 21:00 local time (LT), setting a new short-term rain record for the province.
Dongying City in Shangdong Province recorded 145.8 mm (5.74 inches ) of rain in one hour leading to severe flooding. This set a new hourly rainfall record for the province.
Visuals showed severely inundated streets full of muddy waters.
